Here's what I'd say if you asked me what I'm up to.

World History: Strategy, Causes, and Reasons for Being
It's dark before I leave for work; it's dark on my drive home. For me, this cycle
spurs introspection. In order to curb any SAD, this is my time to read, study, and understand.
Here's what I'm reading:
- The Wars for Asia, 1911-1949 by S.C.M. Paine
- The Russian Revolution: A New History by Sean McMeekin
- The Japanese Empire: Grand Strategy from the Meiji Restoration to the Pacific War by S.C.M. Paine
I'm always curious to understand historical events through a cultural, social and strategic perspective.
Much of history is represented through the dreaded "fact bubbles;" this happened, then this happened, then this happened, etc.,
alternatively history is Westernized or taught through the American (victor's) lense. I need to know the whole picture
to understand why the world is the way it is.
Programming
I'm learning HTML / CSS to build this website. I like a challenge; and this is (nearly) free.
But why? Three reasons:
- It's antiquated, less convenient, and less practical. You'll notice a similar theme throughout my
many interests.
- The internet has become an odious, vile and depressing place. The
algorithms have me down, and I'm losing all interest
in social media beyond my professional obligations.
- I want to learn some new skills and build something--digitally--that will stand the test of time, and
hopefully become
a digital archive of my life.
What else?
- As you may know, my wife and I got officially married on October 25, 2025. Hooray!
- We're working on renovating our main bathroom - projects post coming soon!
- We have just welcomed a new nephew into the world, and we'll be traveling soon to meet him.
